　　as well ：一般不用否定句，通常放在句末，強(qiáng)調(diào)時(shí)可放在句中。

　　either ：用于否定句，放在句末，之前加逗號(hào)。

　　likewise ：是書面語用詞。

　　一、分清本義與引申義

　　1. 用于本義

　　as well as 用于本義，可視為as…as結(jié)構(gòu)與well的自然搭配，其意為“與……一樣好”，在否定句中可用not so well as代替 not as well as。如：

　　He speaks English as well as her. 他說英語說得跟她一樣好。

　　She plays every bit as well as the men. 她打得一點(diǎn)不比男人們差。

　　He doesn’t play half as well as his sister. 他演奏的水平不及他姐姐的一半。

　　He sings as well as, if not better than, Mary. 要是他唱歌不比瑪麗唱得更好，但至少也是一樣好。

　　2. 用于引申義

　　用于引申義，表示“不但……而且”“既是……也是”“而且”“還”。如：

　　He grows flowers as well as vegetables. 他既種菜也種花。

　　She shares (in) my troubles as well as my joys. 她與我同甘共苦。

　　A as well as B這一結(jié)構(gòu)強(qiáng)調(diào)的重點(diǎn)是A不是B，即 A as well as B=not only B but also A，注意體會(huì)以下例句的譯文：

　　She is clever as well as beautiful. 她不但漂亮，而且聰明。

　　He speaks Spanish as well as English and French. 他不僅會(huì)說英語和法語，而且會(huì)說西班牙語。

　　Actors have to learn their cues as well as their own lines. 演員不僅要記住臺(tái)詞，還要記住其他演員的暗示。

　　三、把握主謂一致

　　當(dāng) as well as 連接兩個(gè)成分作主語時(shí), 其后的謂語通常要與前面一個(gè)主語保持一致。如：

　　Tom as well as his parents is going to London. 湯姆和他的父母要去倫敦。

　　The captain, as well as the other players, was tired. 隊(duì)長和其他隊(duì)員都累了。

　　但是，有時(shí)即使 as well as 前面一個(gè)成分為單數(shù)，其后的謂語也可能用復(fù)數(shù)，尤其是當(dāng)as well as 后面一個(gè)成分比較長且該結(jié)構(gòu)沒有用逗號(hào)隔開時(shí)。如：

　　四、牢記后續(xù)動(dòng)詞的形式

　　as well as 后接動(dòng)詞到底是該用什么形式，這是一比較復(fù)雜的問題，歸納起來有以下幾點(diǎn)值得注意：

　　1. as well as 通常被視為介詞，所以后接動(dòng)詞時(shí)，一般用動(dòng)名詞形式。如：

　　He sings as well as playing the piano. 他不但會(huì)彈鋼琴，而且會(huì)唱歌。

　　As well as breaking his leg, he hurt his arm. 他不但摔斷了腿，而且還傷了胳膊。

　　Smoking is dangerous, as well as making you smell bad. 吸煙不僅使你身上有氣味，而且危險(xiǎn)。

　　She is a talented musician as well as being a photographer. 她不但是攝影師還是個(gè)天才的音樂家。

　　注：as well as 后接動(dòng)詞用動(dòng)名詞的情況主要見于主句謂語為簡單時(shí)態(tài)(即一般現(xiàn)在時(shí)和一般過去時(shí))的時(shí)候。

　　2. 如果主句謂語為復(fù)合時(shí)態(tài)(即其中含有情態(tài)動(dòng)詞或助動(dòng)詞)，則as well as 后的動(dòng)詞通常要與情態(tài)動(dòng)詞或助動(dòng)詞后的動(dòng)詞形式保持一致。如：

　　Students should pursue their own interests, as well as do their school work. 學(xué)生不僅應(yīng)該做要好家庭作業(yè)，而且還要有自己的興趣。

　　I have to feed the animals as well as look after the children. 我不但要照顧孩子們，而且還要喂那些馬。

　　3. 如果as well as 是連接兩個(gè)不定式，則其后用不帶to的不定式。如：

　　A museum should aim to entertain as well as educate. 博物館不僅要有教育性還且還要有娛樂性。

　　We cannot expect her to do the homework as well as look after the children. 我們不能指望她既做作業(yè)又照看孩子。

　　4. 當(dāng)as well as 用于句首時(shí)，其后習(xí)慣上要接動(dòng)名詞。如：

　　As well as eating a seven-course meal, they drank three bottles of wine. 除吃了一頓有七道菜的飯之外，他們還喝了三瓶酒。

　　As well as walking, he likes fishing and shooting. 他除散步之外還喜歡釣魚和打獵。

　　As well as visiting Niagara Falls, we spent a day in Toronto. 我們參觀了Niagara 瀑布，而且學(xué)在多倫多玩了一天。
